Does it seem like you’re getting further and further from your business goal despite working harder and longer on your business? Today I’ll discuss three principles for success that every business owner should keep in mind when they’re feeling unmotivated in their business.
What does success look like in your business? And I mean success for yours specifically. Not what you’ve seen others have achieved.
It is so common for us to scroll through LinkedIn or Facebook, marvel at someone else’s success, and wonder why we haven’t achieved that yet.
Or we hear stories at our BNI’s or other peer groups of their business successes and feel the slightest envy for them.
Here are two things to keep in mind:
So let’s stop envying others’ success and define success for ourselves using these 3 principles.
Let’s unpack…
It’s easy to get caught up in the perfectionist mindset. Even my team and I are what we call “recovering perfectionists.”
The reality is, it doesn’t exist. As such, we should prioritize persisting day by day, instead of setting unrealistic expectations we can’t hold ourselves to.
Persistence is defined as the "voluntary continuation of a goal-directed action in spite of obstacles, difficulties, or discouragement." (Peterson and Seligman, 2004, Authentic Happiness).
Persistence exists despite failure or obstacles, but so many of us when faced with either, fold under the pressure.
Failure can be embarrassing, and hitting roadblocks along the journey can feel like a punishment at times, but keep in mind that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It actually took 1,229 years if you were interested. And despite the timeline, hurdles, lack of technology, and all other obstacles, it was still achieved.
Persistence is the only thing that will move you forward and join the other success stories. The alternative? Anxiety, dissatisfaction, and regret. Don’t let the temporary pain of a slower process stop you from moving forward. Your future self will thank you
If you want to succeed in business or any goals you’ve set, you first must develop good habits that rule your life. Here are a few habits that are essential in today’s day and age:
We live in a world with an overflow of opportunities everywhere. It’s no surprise that analysis paralysis happens in our personal and professional lives as well. Analysis paralysis is a state that you can find yourself in when feeling extraordinarily overwhelmed because there are too many choices presented to you.
Action breeds results and allows you to reach your goals faster.
Don’t wait for “when the time is right.” Success may not look the same for everyone but you never know when the right opportunity can be the key to your success.
