Sales Success Comes From A Disciplined Focus

I am reading the book "Fanatical Prospecting" by Jeb Blount for the monthly BookCLUB program I run.  This book is full of great tips and advice for folks responsible for generating leads.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

  • The more you prospect the luckier you get.  He states that we want to get up to the plate often so that we have more chances to swing the bat.  In doing so, we will have higher probabilities of hitting the ball.
  • Know your numbers to manage your ratios.  He reinforces the notion that marketing and sales is a numbers game.  If you know your numbers, then you know how much activity you need to hit your goals.  I teach this in the 5 Ways Formula webinar that I have outlined below.  

One of my favorite quotes from the book is "Developing a fanatical prospecting mindset starts with coming to grips with the fact that prospecting is hard, grueling, rejection-dense work.  There is no sugarcoating it.  Prospecting sucks.  This is why so many salespeople don't do it and instead spend their time and energy seeking silver bullets, secret formulas, and shortcuts, or ignore prospecting all together until it is too late.

I can relate to this.  The work can is hard at times.  The rejection can feel overwhelming and lead me to be too discouraged to keep trying.  Here is the thing though.  I know I provide a service that does make a significant difference in people's lives.  So, if I don't push through my own insecurities and fears, I am not putting myself in a place to help others.
