How to Leverage Our Time for Massive Results

If you’re like most business owners, you’re probably working well over 50 hours per week. This is a lot of time, but unfortunately for many owners, it does not lead to positive results. To get the results we want in our business we must evaluate how we spend our time and what we spend our time on. In this article, we’ll discuss:

  • What is leverage
  • 3 ways business owners should invest their time

What are your big audacious goals for your business?

We’ve all thought about it at one time or another. What our life would look like if we could:

  • Expand into new territories
  • Reach $1 million in sales
  • Sell the business

These are outstanding goals that most business owners ponder. But the problem is, how do we get there?

Many of us turn to working long hours and putting in as much time in our business as possible, from the early morning to the late night. But what happens when all of those hours don’t translate to the results we need to achieve those audacious goals?

What you probably didn’t know is that 80% of the work we do in our business is routine work. These are things we do every day to maintain the business that doesn’t exactly grow the business.

So even though we spend all of this time working in our business, we’re not exactly working ON our business to reach the success we want.

The solution to stop wasting time in your business is leverage.

Watch our Youtube video for more information on why we should apply leverage to our business

What is Leverage?

It is the idea of dividing to multiple. You break things down into smaller parts and optimizing the parts so that when added back together the result is multiplied.

To gain a real advantage within your business, you need to “systemize the routine” as ActionCOACH CEO and Founder, Brad Sugars, says. These systems allow business owners to ‘Save Your Self Time Energy and Money’.

We do this by systemizing those routine tasks mentioned previously to ensure best practices are leveraged for faster production, less rework, and better use of resources. This includes things such as automating routines with technology or merging some activities to make them more efficient.

Systems also allow employees to run the business at a higher capacity as we train them to take on these routine tasks.

The ultimate goal is to have your team taking care of the day-to-day things so that you have time to focus on the goals for your business. This is the key to the results you're pursuing. This is the 20% you should be focused on.

Here are 3 ways business owners should invest their time

  1. Seeking new business opportunities - Think of ways you can expand your business and reach. Are there ways you can outreach to the community or partner with other businesses or organizations?
  2. Providing leadership to your team - We should always think of ways that we can better communicate with our team so they can achieve the results we need them to achieve.
  3. Mapping out the future of the business - This is where those big audacious goals come back into play. Now that we’ve taken things off of our plate, we can put the necessary time required to achieve them. Now we can build our roadmap by creating our 3 to 5-year plan and breaking down the big goals into smaller goals that can be achieved through strategic planning. Remember, these goals must be SMART.

If you need further proof, that system is the key to success, just look at McDonald’s restaurants. They are all over the world introducing the same quality product and service, employing low skilled staff and making very good profits.

So stop being a slave to your business and the meaningless routines that hinder growth. Start leading it. If you’re unsure how to start, talk to a business coach to map out a plan to achieve your big audacious goals.
