When everyone’s in a race to chase the money, prioritizing your vision is the quickest way to the finish line. When you define your vision and keep it at the center of your business, you are more likely to make decisions that will positively affect everyone involved in your business. This will keep the passion alive in your business and propel you towards success. In return, the money will follow!
Why did you start your business?
When we take the leap to become business owners, there’s typically a motive that drives us towards that goal.
For many people, it's because they want to make a difference in their community by bringing something to it that can positively impact them. For some, it’s because they have a passion for something and want to share it with the world. Rarely, though, do people start businesses with the sole goal of being rich.
I say rarely, because some people do start businesses with the purpose of being rich and making a lot of money. But this is way harder than it sounds and will often lead to disappointment. This is because money is fleeting and is not a constant in life.
Have you ever heard the quote, “chase the vision, not the money”? We are not guaranteed to make a lot of money and we are not guaranteed to keep that money once we get it, as we know - anything can happen to where we can lose it in a blink of an eye.
But what remains constant is the love and passion we have for our family and our community.
In our company we have something called Destination Mastery. This means a business owner must create a clear mission and vision for the business. These are key doctrines that will serve as the foundation for everything in the business. It guides the company by serving as aspirational statements of what the business would like to become.
Besides a thoughtful and inspiring vision statement, we also need to identify the core values that will lead to outstanding performances and behaviors of the people who work within our business.
It should motivate them and make them happy and excited to work in your business for years to come and be woven into everything they do.
Without clarity and the absorption of the vision, they are just empty words on paper. They need to be alive within everyone in the business. From the front-line workers to the highest levels of management, the core values serve as a level of accountability to ensure that all employees stay true to the mission and vision.
Here’s our company’s vision:
"Our vision is to make a difference in the lives of every success-oriented business owner in Indiana by helping them achieve massive results. Our coaching will implement a proven methodology that builds great teams and gives back time for loved ones while also having a more successful, growing business that provides the money needed to realize your life dreams.
Our goal is to help CEOs, Owners, Presidents, Founders, and Leaders such as yourself work less IN your business and more time working ON your business. In the end, you’ll be working less and will make more money. The FUN will be put back in your business and your life."
Of course, we want our business to be profitable and bring in revenue- it’s how we support ourselves, our family, and employees. But the moment we make money the number one priority, our vision goes out the window.
If we are keeping money as the central focus, we are more likely to make decisions that can negatively affect our relationships with our family and employees.
This will lead us to increasing prices or adding new products or services as ways to make more money. These things may be necessary, but if we do it to the extreme, we will make decisions that hurt our company culture, put more stress on our employees, tarnish our relationship with our employees and pull us away from our family.
When our vision is alive in the business, the decisions we make will be beneficial for everyone - employees, family, customers, you. In return, this ignites passion that propels our business forward towards success.
When the vision is first, success will come. Then the money will follow.
