Does Business Coaching Really Help?

Over the past year, I've met with over 200 business owners and there are 3 themes that I consistently hear:

• My business has been doing well but I have taken it as far as I can on my own and need help to get to the next level
• My business controls me, I am working way too much and missing out on family and life because I'm working 60, 70, 80 or more hours a week.  I've tried hiring people, but it never works out.  I'm working long and hard and still am not making as much as I'd like. I'm tired and discouraged and not enjoying it.
• Things are good in the business, I don't need a coach

I also get the question a lot about what exactly a business coach is.  A coach is different than a consultant.  You hire a consultant for subject matter expertise in a certain area and they generally do the work for you.  As a business coach, my goal is to teach you to fish, not fish for you.  I want you to become an expert in running your business.  Here is a great article that further explains the difference between a consultant and a coach https://soulsalt.com/what-is-a-business-coach/

I will never know your industry or your business as well as you and you shouldn't want me to because you are the expert there.  I bring the expertise of best practices of how to run a great business.  I become your strategic partner (your board of directors) that you can bounce ideas off of, be challenged in your thinking, hold you accountable, push you do achieve more.  It is very loney at the top, so I also often become the only person you can talk to about some of the challenges you face.

Often times, the folks who assume they don't need a coach simply don't understand the value that a coach brings.  If you think of athletes, the best in the world would never say 'I'm good, I don't need a coach'.  Those who want to excel, use experts to get them there.  I hired a coach when I started this business because I wanted to ensure someone was holding me accountable to implementing all the best-practices that I teach into my own business.

Why am I sharing this?  I know there are thousands of business owners who have the potential to greatly improve the growth in the business, the profit in the business and significantly reduce the stress and amount of time they work in the business.  Many business owners either do not know that business coaching exists or are skeptical of it.  So, I'm sharing this to shed some positive light on the situation.
